The Senior Business Analyst's role is to be responsible for taking business requirements and translating them into technical requirements and solutions and to elicit, analyze, specify and validate the business needs of program/project stakeholders through the production of requirements documentation and deliverables.

The Senior Business Analyst works to optimize the effective interplay, traceability and digital transformation of university processes, information, applications, and technology environments, through close collaboration with the Manager, Digital Strategy Architecture and Governance, the Senior Technical Project Managers and Senior Business Analysts team as well as contract Program Managers, Project Managers and Business Analysts to comply with the Digital Governance Framework and supporting Project Management Framework and Toolkit of Athabasca University.

The Sr Business Analyst is responsible for conducting functional reviews with stakeholders from different business areas and faculties within the university, gather and analyze requirements, document business process and requirements, and create or assist in the development of process maps of current and future state that coordinate and are structurally integrated to AU's enterprise Digital Strategy Architecture Maps of its operations and research cloud infrastructures.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in computer science, management, or engineering, recognized in Canada. In lieu of a degree or diploma, additional experience over and above the minimum requirement may be considered.
  • Minimum of 7 years' progressive experience in complex, senior technical Business Analysis, with an emphasis on cloud transformation and optimization projects or related technology digital strategy and modernization implementations and digital transformations.
  • AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification required or the commitment to complete certification within 2 years of date of hire.
  • Business Analyst certification (such as IIBA, PMT-PBA, IQBBA or IREB based certifications) required
  • Program Management Professional (PgMP), Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP), or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP) preferred
  • Understanding of current cloud architecture best practices, design principles, market trends and emerging technologies
  • Understanding of cloud security required for project implementations activities related to applying cloud security rules, network security and securing web transactions, applications, and forms
  • Expert user of ServiceNow Project Portfolio Module and other project management tools such as JIRA and MS Project
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to take a practical approach to dealing with shifting priorities, demands and timelines
  • Ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies
  • Delivery-oriented and tenacious attitude
  • Knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail
  • Understanding of DevSecOps methodology and direct experience with all aspects of business process engineering and re-engineering as it relates to systems analysis, design, testing, implementation, and decommissioning
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. These skills must include strong oral and written communication skills, as well as a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and persuasiveness
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience researching and writing business cases for digital innovations including landscape, benefits, and SWOT analyses and defining and measuring against benefits and objectives using key performance indicators
  • Experience with business and technical requirements analysis, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development
  • Experience in developing integrated system and technical design specifications on complex engagements.
  • Experience in developing new IT services including the development of service definitions, service measurements, cost models, processes, implementation, and operational hand over.
  • Experience participating in the design, development and implementation of software and hardware solutions, systems, or products
  • Experience with Business Process Modeling Notation, and/or other formal business process systems
  • Ability to create systematic and consistent requirements specifications in both technical and user-friendly language
  • Ability to apply statistical and other research methods into systems issues and products as required
  • Additional AWS certifications preferred
