Your future role on the team

BBA is currently seeking a senior or principal engineer in Pyrometallurgical Process engineering to provide high quality consulting services to its growing base of clients in high-temperature metallurgical operations. As the senior or principal pyrometallurgical engineer, you'll help lead studies and business development initiatives of new processes, or modernization and decarbonization of existing processes, globally.
You must have at least 12 years of experience in pyrometallurgical design projects and consulting and be motivated by business development and growth activities. We prefer that you have experience in base metals (or precious metals and PGM) designs and consulting along with an ability to find and implement innovative solutions to complex metallurgical problems.

Specific areas of expertise include drying, pre-reduction, pre-heating, roasting, smelting, converting and fire refining as well as knowledge and/or experience in raw material handling, process and fugitive off-gas handling. Knowledge in acid plants and electrorefining would be an asset.

Overview of certifications and job requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering from a recognized university
  • At least 12 years of experience in base metals pyrometallurgical design and development projects
  • Strong track record of successfully completed high-temperature design projects in the mining and metals industry
  • Have sharp analytical skills, with a particular interest and understanding of high-temperature metallurgical processes.
  • High-temperature process simulation and/or design software experience and a strong desire to stay up to date on design tools
  • Ability to register as a professional engineer in Canada
  • Active participation and representation of BBA at conferences and at universities
  • Occasional travel to domestic or international destinations is required.
  • Be a team player and communicate well in a multidisciplinary engineering team.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for business development and growth and a commitment to generating value-creating opportunities.
  • Possess excellent written and spoken communication and presentation skills.
  • Be willing to engage and participate in university activities to support the growth of pyrometallurgical engineering skills in North America
