About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Team Lead, Business Intelligence based in Canada.

This role combines technical expertise in Business Intelligence with people leadership, offering the opportunity to both guide a small team of BI developers and actively contribute to high-impact client delivery.

You will play a central role in designing and delivering financial reporting and analytics solutions tailored to complex professional services environments, particularly within law firms.

The position requires a strong balance between hands-on technical execution and team management, ensuring both delivery excellence and team development.

You will work closely with clients and internal stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable BI solutions that drive operational and financial clarity.

A significant part of the role focuses on financial analytics, reporting on key metrics such as profitability, billing, collections, and utilization.

This is a client-facing, consulting-oriented role suited for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-driven, and collaborative environment.

Accountabilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of BI Developers, including task assignment, performance management, coaching, and fostering a high-performance culture. Act as a hands-on contributor to BI delivery, including Power BI development, semantic/tabular modeling, DAX measures, dashboards, and reporting solutions. Partner with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into scalable, accurate, and actionable BI solutions. Design and deliver financial reporting and analytics for law firm metrics such as revenue, profitability, billing, collections, WIP, and utilization. Ensure data accuracy, governance, and consistency across reporting systems while adhering to BI best practices and documentation standards. Drive process improvements, reporting optimization, and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability. Review, validate, and support deliverables produced by team members to ensure quality and technical excellence. Contribute to innovation by staying current with BI tools, data modeling practices, and industry trends in professional services analytics.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or a related field, including at least 2+ years in a leadership or team management role. Strong experience delivering financial reporting and analytics solutions, ideally within law firms or professional services environments. Advanced proficiency in Power BI or Microsoft Fabric, including DAX, semantic modeling, and dashboard development. Strong SQL and data modeling expertise, with experience designing scalable and performant data structures for analytics. Familiarity with law firm financial systems such as Elite, Aderant, or similar platforms. Experience with data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and BI governance practices. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively in client-facing environments. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities with strong attention to detail. Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical delivery in a consulting environment.
