About the role
Who we are: IESO Nova Scotia is a new organization created by the Nova Scotia Government that began operations in 2025. IESO Nova Scotia will reform the way Nova Scotia’s energy system is managed by assuming responsibility for managing the power system in real-time, achieving clean energy goals and planning for the province's future energy needs.

Role Summary: This person will report directly to the General Counsel and support the organization in meeting legal, regulatory, market, and reliability obligations by monitoring compliance and interpreting requirements for internal teams. In the role of position title, you will be joining a world-class team that is committed to energizing Nova Scotia, developing our electricity system, and keeping the lights on.
Responsibilities include: Monitoring compliance with legal, regulatory, reliability, market, and internal policy obligations. Maintaining the risk registry and tracking changes to all relevant statutes, regulations, codes, and standards. Coordinating compliance attestations, self-certifications, and evidence submissions for governance, regulatory and reliability bodies. Conducting compliance testing or internal reviews to confirm adherence to required standards. Integrating risk management into integrated system planning, long-term resource adequacy assessments and major grid transformation initiatives Maintaining and update risk registers (enterprise, regulatory, operational). Providing risk analysis for long term planning scenarios, procurement programs, and capacity forecasting. Evaluating compliance considerations for new programs, such as distributed energy resources (DERs) or demand flexibility initiatives. Preparing risk dashboards, quarterly risk reports, internal compliance summaries, and audit updates
You are: A university graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Economics, Law, or related disciplines Equipped with at least 7 years of progressive experience in enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance or reliability compliance within the electricity, utilities or critical infrastructure sectors Knowledgeable about enterprise risk management frameworks and their application within utilities Understanding of regulatory regimes and regional reliability governance structures relevant to Atlantic Canada Able to interpret complex regulatory language and translate it into practical operational requirements Analytical, a problem solver, and able to determine the root cause of issues Excellent at both written and verbal communications, including preparation of Board-level reporting materials and dashboards Able to maintain a high degree of integrity, discretion and professional judgment, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent regulatory deadlines and enterprise initiatives
Extra awesome if you also have: Professional risk or compliance certifications Formal training in recognized Enterprise Risk Management frameworks Direct experience with NERC Reliability Standards Experience working within or alongside an Independent System Operator, Regional Transmission Organization or regulated utility environment
