Location: Victoria, BC
Salary: $65,000 - $80,000
Candidate Profile
The Building Science and Restoration Engineer will work as an active team member within project teams, from assessment, conceptual, and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion. The successful candidate is a self-motivated, fast learner with a desire to continually learn and grow and has a passion for Building Science and Restoration. A commitment to providing exceptional client service and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions is key.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Working with a Project Engineer within the project team to take a project from the preliminary conceptual stage through the construction and project close-out stages
- Preliminary site investigations and detailed evaluations of existing buildings
- Preparation of evaluation reports, studies, and project budgets
- Development of drawings and specifications for rehabilitation projects
- Design and analysis to determine effective repair alternatives
- Awareness of the designer’s influence on constructability and project costs
- Review and analyze of bids submitted by restoration contractors
- Contract administration and construction field review while the project is in the construction phase
- Prime consulting including coordination with other engineering and architectural disciplines
- Develop an understanding of the responsibilities and prevue of each respective design discipline and construction trade
- Involvement in negotiations and dispute resolution
- Over time, attain the strength and confidence to become a project lead – spearheading designs, chairing meetings, acting as client liaison, working with contractors to analyze solutions to unforeseen conditions during the construction phase
Professional Qualifications & Experience
EDUCATION
- Degree in Civil Engineering – Preference may be given for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science.
- Registered as an Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T) with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia, or eligible for registration. Preference may be given to those registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or with eligibility and intent to register as P.Eng.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 years of previous experience in building science or engineering.
- Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset.
- Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.
SKILLS
- Strong, effective and clear communication skills – both written and verbal.
- Committed to client service and technical excellence.
- Good interpersonal skills (active listening, empathetic, positive attitude, and solution-focused).
- Effective and proven leadership skills.
- Fast learner with a desire to grow professionally and personally.
- Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction.
- Hard worker, ready to assume responsibility quickly and have fun at the same time.
- Inquisitive, clear thinker who can determine what work is required and who can draw rational conclusions from information available.
- Ability to conceptualize in three dimensions.
- Aptitude for working with existing facilities and comfortable working at heights.
- Familiarity with building construction and construction practices
