As a Human Resources (HR) Consultant, Respectful Workplace (RWP) Investigations, you will examine and investigate high profile and high-risk workplace incidents of a serious or offensive behavior. You will use trauma-informed methodology focused on employee experience to create and model leading investigative practices.
You will partner with key HR supports and Business Unit leaders on employee relations matters and advise on the interpretation and application of the Respectful Workplace Policy, Code Policies, other City Policies, the Harassment and Violence Prevention Plan, and applicable legislation. In this position, you will play a key role in contributing to a psychologically safe and respectful workplace. Primary duties include: Prepare impartial and unbiased investigation plans, including researching and gathering evidence and information related to the complaint. Conduct impartial fact-finding investigations related to bullying, harassment and discrimination allegations and apply trauma-informed practices with all parties to the investigation. Prepare clear and concise written reports summarizing findings and recommendations based on evidence and statements collected and apply appropriate City policy and legislation. Conduct intake meetings on RWP matters, evaluate risks, and make informed decisions regarding next steps for managing and addressing workplace conflict. Stay well-informed of emerging social trends, leading investigation practices, legislation and case law that impacts the RWP program work. Collaborate with key partners to develop and promote human rights and respectful workplace tools and resources, and at times deliver training throughout the organization.
Qualifications A degree in Social Sciences, Human Resources, or a related discipline and at least 5 years of experience investigating complex respectful workplace issues and human rights complaints, preferably in a large, complex organization. Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered. Expertise in gathering pertinent information to write clear and concise reports is required. A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use, or reliable transportation to access remote work sites. Preference will be given to candidates with investigation experience in a unionized environment. Specialized investigation training, and/or a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation will be considered an asset. The ability to manage competing interests, multiple priorities and simultaneous deadlines in a timely manner. Success in this role requires a resilient individual with well-developed communication skills, high attention to detail, the ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, sound judgement, initiative, and practical decision making.
