Nursery Design Associate
This position works with research and commercial brand personnel to develop short and long-term testing programs for experimental and commercial products and hybrids. More specifically, this role:
monitors development throughout the season, collecting biological information and data from field and strip plots; presents agronomic information to the research and commercial teams; arranges and conducts plot tours and provides product knowledge to assist in product and hybrid evaluation; and makes recommendations for new products and hybrids development.
This is a permanent position based out of the Winnipeg lab.
What you will do:
Develop in-season production plans and set up growth chamber projects using company database and pedigree software following guidance from the Nursery Design Specialist. Coordination between growth chamber and laboratory teams to track material in the pipeline, ensuring accuracy of data and efficiency of collection. Management of the project master files to ensure that all data is captured accurately by various stakeholders. Work with the growth chamber and genotyping lab teams to ensure material is forecasted accurately, and is shipped according to established timelines. Development and quality checking of active project files to ensure clear crossing instructions are communicated to the team. Use AI tools, pipeline pilot and spotfire to manage and develop automation and visualization tools that facilitate project tracking and reporting. Reading genotype reports to verify cross accuracy and select acceptable plants. Work with Master Production Scheduler and operations teams to minimize turn-around time between growing cycles. Work with breeders to ensure timely selection of growth chamber material. Communication and advancement of selected growth chamber material records. Communicate with global trade teams to ensure fast and accurate shipping of plant samples. Work with operations teams to develop process improvements and contribute to our culture of innovation. Maintains the project communication file for each site to allow operations teams to plan work. Efficiently communicate with operations team for smooth operation of in-season projects. Coordinates between various operations and lab teams to ensure the timely movement of material and data. Communicate with various marker lab teams for on-time data return. Represent nursery design at site OPS meetings to gather in-season information needed for project success. Ensure all activities/events are conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner, in accordance with Bayer Safety, compliance and Sustainability Policies.
Who you are:
Post-secondary education in the biological sciences focusing on genetics (preference for B.Sc or M.Sc) Experience managing large biological datasets, interpreting that data and making data driven decisions Strong computer skills, specifically AI, SQL, Pipeline Pilot, or Spotfire Very strong Excel skills Highly motivated and detail oriented Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks Strong English communication skills and ability to communicate between cross function teams Adaptability to learn complex procedures and translate them into clear, actionable plans

The base salary range for this role is between $51,360 and $77,040. Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation. Additional benefits may include insured benefits such as health care, vision, dental, disability, and contributory retirement savings plans, etc.
This salary range is an estimate and may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, market data and the applicant’s skills, prior relevant experience, job-related knowledge, specific degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
