Category Manager, Fuel & Car Wash
Department: Fuel & Car Wash
Location: Calgary, AB (#400, 229 - 33rd Street NE Calgary, Alberta T2A 4Y6)
Type of employment: Permanent, Full Time (40 hours)
THE ROLE
We are currently hiring for a Category Manager, Fuel & Car Wash to join our Western Canada team. Reporting to the Director of Fuel, the Category Manager, Fuel & Car Wash will lead the development and execution of fuel and car wash category strategies across the Western Region. This role works closely with internal and external stakeholders to maximize gross profit while achieving sales, margin, and share-of-market objectives.
The successful candidate will oversee fuel and car wash pricing strategies, promotional initiatives, customer experience programs, and operational execution to deliver best-in-class results across the fuel and car wash portfolio.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Develop and execute annual fuel and car wash category business plans, including category roles, strategies, tactics, and marketing initiatives.
- Manage the retail fuel and car wash portfolio for the Western Region and act as the liaison for all fuel and car wash-related activities.
- Establish and achieve fuel and car wash margin, sales , and profitability targets through strategic pricing and category management.
- Analyze market conditions, sales trends, competitive activity, customer behavior, and other data to identify opportunities for growth and optimization.
- Develop pricing models, dashboards, and forecasting tools to monitor pricing elasticity, margin volatility, and customer acquisition initiatives.
- Review and adjust site-level pricing to meet financial, sales, and market share objectives.
- Coordinate promotional campaigns, loyalty initiatives, and customer experience programs to drive engagement and sales growth.
- Work closely with operations teams to ensure effective execution of programs through store visits, training, and regular communication.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with external vendor partners by providing strategic direction, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Coordinate and track testing of new products, technologies, and equipment; publish findings and recommendations.
- Support and troubleshoot system and payment-related issues to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Prepare financial forecasts, category analyses, and performance reports to support budgeting and strategic planning.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations related to fuel supply management, pricing, ethanol, and additive handling.
- Collaborate and share best practices with counterparts across North America and Europe.
- Participate in negotiations with regional vendor and supplier partners.
- Contribute to special projects and additional initiatives as assigned by the Director of Fuel.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience and education may be considered.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in fuel or car wash retail, category management, retail marketing, operations, or a related field preferred.
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience is considered an asset.
Knowledge and skills:
- Strong analytical, organizational, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and data analysis tools; Power BI experience required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret and analyze sales, pricing, and market data to drive strategic decisions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and with external partners.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Willingness to travel to store locations as required (approximately 25% to 35% travel).
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract required.
