About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Power Studies Engineer (PSCAD) based in Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the engineering of advanced electrical power systems supporting hyperscale and AI-driven data centers across North America.

The successful candidate will perform complex power system studies focused on reliability, resiliency, and performance optimization.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will collaborate with engineering teams, utilities, and project stakeholders on mission-critical infrastructure.

You will leverage advanced modeling tools and industry expertise to solve complex electrical challenges where uptime and system stability are essential.

This position provides exposure to cutting-edge technologies, large-scale infrastructure projects, and innovative engineering solutions.

The role is fully remote within Canada, with occasional travel required based on project needs.

It is an opportunity to make a measurable impact while advancing expertise in power systems engineering and AI data center infrastructure.

Accountabilities

As a Power Studies Engineer, you will be responsible for analyzing, modeling, and optimizing complex electrical systems to support reliable and resilient mission-critical facilities. You will contribute technical expertise throughout project lifecycles, from system analysis and design coordination to commissioning support and stakeholder collaboration.

Perform advanced power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding, power quality, harmonic analysis, transient analysis, and reliability assessments. Develop and maintain electrical system models using PSCAD, ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, or similar power system analysis platforms. Conduct electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to evaluate system behavior during switching events, faults, utility disturbances, and significant load variations. Analyze the impact of high-density AI and mission-critical loads on utility systems, emergency generation, UPS infrastructure, and facility electrical networks. Support utility interconnection studies and coordinate technical requirements with utility providers. Evaluate redundancy strategies, contingency scenarios, system reliability, and overall electrical resiliency. Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, documentation, and recommendations for clients and project teams. Collaborate with electrical design teams on medium-voltage systems, substations, standby generation, UPS systems, and utility infrastructure. Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, commissioning activities, and technical discussions with stakeholders. Review engineering deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards.

Requirements

The ideal candidate is an experienced power systems professional with strong analytical capabilities and hands-on experience performing complex electrical studies. You should have a solid understanding of utility infrastructure, mission-critical facilities, and advanced power system modeling tools.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. 8-15 years of experience in power systems engineering, utility engineering, substations, transmission and distribution, industrial facilities, renewable energy, mining, or mission-critical infrastructure. Demonstrated experience performing power system studies, including transient, harmonic, grounding, load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, and arc flash analysis. Required proficiency with PSCAD. Experience with ETAP, SKM PowerTools, EasyPower, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CYME, or similar engineering software. Strong knowledge of electrical power systems, substations, protective relaying, utility infrastructure, and reliability concepts. Experience with utility interconnections and medium-voltage electrical systems. Experience with underground duct bank ampacity and heat studies using Neher-McGrath methodology is an asset. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada, or eligibility to obtain registration, is an asset. Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), CSA standards, IEEE standards, utility requirements, and applicable provincial regulations. Familiarity with U.S. electrical standards, including NEC, NFPA, and IEEE requirements, is an asset. Strong technical writing, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical recommendations to clients. Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Benefits

Fully remote work environment within Canada. Opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge hyperscale and AI data center projects. Exposure to advanced power system analysis, digital twins, BIM technologies, and innovative engineering solutions. Competitive salary package. Comprehensive benefits including extended health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance. Paid vacation and retirement savings programs where applicable. Professional development, training, and career advancement opportunities. Collaborative environment with experienced engineering professionals. Potential stock ownership or synthetic equity opportunities.
