About the role

Change the future with us.

We are looking for dedicated and talented people who solve ever-changing challenges, customer needs, and questions from colleagues with clever concepts and creativity. We embrace change and work with curious minds re-inventing the future of work. Join us and let us focus together on what’s truly important: making lives better with new ideas and the latest technology around the world.

About the role: Backend Engineer for Data Ingestion, APIs, and Connectors

Do you enjoy building reliable backend systems that transform messy real-world data into usable, secure, and scalable platform capabilities? Are you excited about APIs, event-driven services, ingestion pipelines, and integration patterns for AI and robotics?

We are seeking a Backend Engineer to build the ingestion and API backbone of the Canada Physical AI platform. In this role, you will develop services that bring together customer data, robotics system data, vision streams, metadata, and platform workflows into a consistent and reusable architecture. You will work closely with platform architects, robotics integration engineers, AI/ML specialists, and frontend developers to create production-grade services for industrial robotics data and platform operations.

What will you do?

Develop backend services for data ingestion, normalization, transformation, and secure storage. Build APIs for data onboarding, metadata access, workflow interaction, dataset management, and external integration. Implement reusable connector and adapter patterns for integrating customer systems, robotics sources, and internal platform services. Support authentication, authorization, auditability, and customer boundary handling in platform workflows. Build event-driven and asynchronous services for scalable data processing and pipeline execution. Collaborate on data contracts, schema evolution, and service interfaces with architects and AI/ML engineers. Help ensure platform reliability through robust error handling, observability hooks, and maintainable service design. Contribute to code reviews, engineering standards, and automated testing practices. Support the transition from early pilot implementations to more production-ready backend components.

What you will bring:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. Strong experience with backend development in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages. Experience building REST and/or gRPC APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native services. Good understanding of distributed systems, service integration, and scalable backend design. Practical software engineering skills including testing, debugging, documentation, and clean code. Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

What sets you apart:

Experience with robotics data, device integrations, or industrial data ingestion scenarios. Experience with data pipelines, message queues, object storage, or metadata services. Familiarity with authentication patterns, customer data segregation, or compliance-sensitive architectures. Exposure to AI/ML platforms, annotation systems, or platform-style products.

Why Join Us?

Impact: Build the founding team and platform capability for a strategic Physical AI initiative in Canada. Innovation: Work at the intersection of robotics, AI, industrial software, workflow orchestration, and platform engineering. Leadership: Shape the direction, culture, and operating model of a new strategic engineering organization. Collaboration: Partner with leading global research, product, and engineering teams. Growth: Help define how Physical AI platform capabilities scale from data foundations to runtime-enabled industrial applications.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience, and base salary ranges between $100,000 CAD - $130,000 CAD, excluding bonus and benefits. In addition to base salary, this role includes eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus of 10% of base salary, based on Company performance metrics.
