About the role
Ehvert Mission Critical, a business unit within Salas O’Brien, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Canada. This is a fully remote position open to candidates located anywhere in Canada.
We are looking for a highly experienced mechanical engineering professional with strong expertise in mission-critical facilities, hyperscale data centres, and complex building infrastructure systems. In this role, you will lead the design, coordination, and delivery of advanced mechanical systems supporting large-scale cloud, AI, and high-performance computing facilities across Canada and the United States.
As a senior member of our engineering team, you will provide technical leadership throughout the full project lifecycle—from concept development and detailed design through construction administration and commissioning support. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative, energy-efficient, and highly reliable data centre environments for some of the world’s leading technology organizations. What You Will Do: Lead the mechanical engineering design of mission-critical and data centre projects. Design and coordinate HVAC, chilled water, condenser water, cooling tower, plumbing, hydronic piping, and heat rejection systems for high-availability facilities. Perform and review load calculations, equipment sizing, energy analysis, and system simulations. Prepare and oversee the development of technical specifications, design criteria, reports, and construction documentation. Ensure designs meet project scope, budget, schedule, sustainability objectives, and applicable Canadian and U.S. codes and standards. Provide BIM leadership and multidisciplinary coordination using Autodesk Revit and related digital design tools. Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, and commissioning documentation for technical compliance. Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and processes. Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and technical presentations. Support construction administration, including periodic site visits, field reviews, and coordination with contractors and commissioning teams. Contribute to the implementation of advanced delivery technologies, including BIM, VDC, laser scanning, and digital twin workflows.
What We Expect: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university (Master’s degree considered an asset). 10+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, with significant experience in data centres, mission-critical facilities, healthcare, industrial, or other complex infrastructure projects. Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province, or eligibility to obtain registration. Strong expertise in HVAC and hydronic system design for high-performance facilities. Advanced proficiency with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM coordination workflows. Experience with CFD analysis, energy modelling, or thermal performance assessment is considered an asset. Solid understanding of Canadian building codes, ASHRAE standards, NFPA requirements, and relevant U.S. industry standards. Demonstrated ability to lead projects, manage priorities, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a remote environment. Excellent communication, collaboration, and client relationship skills. Willingness to travel occasionally within Canada and the United States for project and client requirements.
