We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer who is excited by meaningful technical challenges, enjoys collaborating with smart and supportive teammates, and wants to have real impact in a growing product-driven company.
This is an opportunity to work on modern cloud applications, influence technical direction, and help scale products used across the construction industry. This role will be hybrid and will require you to work at least 2 days per week in our downtown Toronto office to collaborate with your team.
What you'll do: Design and implement backend architecture following best software engineering principles Develop clean, efficient code with tests ensuring code quality Participate in code reviews and invite others to review your code Champion the importance of addressing technical debt Collaborate with multiple engineering teams and departments
What you'll Need 5+ Years of backend engineer experience A strong working understanding of Python API frameworks (Flask) Experience in REST API development Experience working with and designing relational databases Experience with event-based processing using AMQP (RabbitMQ, Amazon MQ), Celery Experience developing applications using microservice architecture Experience with version control tools like Git Experience working with AI tools Experience with Google Meets/ Online video collaboration
Bonus: Experience with AWS products (S3 / EC2 / EKS) Experience with ElasticSearch/ OpenSearch Experience with Docker / Kubernetes Familiarity with issue tracking tools (i.e. Jira, ClickUp) Experience with CI / CD Experience with React / GraphQL Experience in a startup environment; you're a self-starter

Bespoke Metrics is a data management and analytical model development company. We blend expertise in data management, model development, and user interface to provide innovative solutions for industries looking to utilize data to its fullest.
Our product COMPASS, is a risk assessment subcontractor program. Our system enables general contractors to leverage their data to better manage both subcontractor prequalification and risk. The COMPASS model provides an empirically driven review of a subcontractor’s execution ability as well as a prequalified dollar amount by contract and by aggregate. Compass can:
- Support GCs in an effort to reduce supply chain risk, concentration and correlation risk
- Access the Insurance Company COMPASS interface
- Obtain an on-going mapping of Subcontractors to the CSID (Unique Subcontractor Identifier)
- Improve the data in the Construction industry through an industry-wide supported effort
