Reporting to the Supervisor of Planning, this position is responsible for monitoring and analyzing existing transit service and infrastructure, and recommending improvements to be implemented based on the City’s needs and in accordance with Transit’s Service Guidelines. Develop short-term and long-term service plans to determine future budget and resource requirements. Review and provide technical comments on site plans, zoning proposals, and subdivision plans to ensure that the City’s goals around ridership growth, public service and safety are met or exceeded.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Analyse data and make recommendations for change. Monitor route performance data, ridership trends, and forecast future service demand to be incorporated into annual service plans. Prepare technical reports for recommended service hours and budget to best meet the needs of Brampton residents. Analyse what is needed to maintain appropriate standards of service and make recommendations for immediate change. Undertake analysis for inputs to strategic transit planning activities. Provide longer-term recommendations for inclusion in strategic documents such as ridership growth strategy, Service Guidelines reviews, Transit Business Plan, and the City’s Transportation Master Plan/Mobility Plan and Official Plan. Review City-wide development applications. Review, comment, and provide approvals where required for development applications, site plans, plans of subdivision, secondary plans and other related land use planning initiatives, as they relate to transit routes and bus stop locations, and long-range transit strategic planning. Management of on-street transit infrastructure Manage planning, design, procurement and implementation of transit on-street infrastructure, in accordance with Transit’s established bus stop guidelines and technical standards, including but not limited to terminals, bus stops, bus bays, transit shelters, benches and infoposts. Maintain detailed inventories, and coordinate the installation, relocation and removal with maintenance staff and contractors. Manage annual pad & shelter capital programs, and evaluate future replacement costs, addition of new transit infrastructure, and maintain overall asset management plan. Coordinate and perform surveys throughout the City of Brampton, of passengers and operators to get feedback on existing transit service levels. Organize the technical and professional responses to stakeholders. Investigate and respond to public complaints and suggestions, and work with all internal transit staff to address issues and coordinate necessary adjustments to transit serviceand infrastructure. Develop and issue customer communications for service changes, and assist passengers at bus stops and terminals for wayfinding service related questions. Provide team support to the Service Development Department as required, Act as a team member by representing Brampton Transit’s interests on various internal and external committees and in meetings.

Selection Criteria

Post-secondary degree/diploma in urban planning, transportation or infrastructure planning or a related field 3-5 years of analysis and planning experience, preferably in public sector and/or in transit industry Research and analysis skills; ability to read statistical data Understanding of Corporate planning and strategic/business planning processes Ability to use Computer software and data systems Ability to read and interpret site plans, subdivision plans, engineering drawings, etc.
