Role Description The Database Administrator role at Carbonsoft is a full-time hybrid position based in Mississauga, ON, with flexibility to work from home part of the time. In this role, the Database Administrator manages and maintains production and development databases to ensure high availability, security, performance, and reliability. Daily responsibilities include monitoring database health, performing backups and recovery operations, managing user access and permissions, and applying patches and updates. The Database Administrator designs and optimizes database structures, implements replication and failover strategies, and troubleshoots issues related to queries, performance, and data integrity. The role also involves collaborating with development and infrastructure teams on database-related projects, documenting procedures, and contributing to continuous improvement of data management practices. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong skills in Database Administration and Databases, including managing, securing, and optimizing multiple database environments. Candidates should possess skills in Database Design and data modeling to create efficient, scalable, and well-structured database schemas. Candidates should possess Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve performance, connectivity, and data-related issues promptly. Candidates should possess experience with Replication and related high-availability techniques to ensure data redundancy and business continuity. Relevant qualifications include experience with major RDBMS platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL) and familiarity with cloud database services. Beneficial qualifications include knowledge of performance tuning, scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or shell scripts), and experience with monitoring tools. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid work environment are important. A post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, is preferred.
