Your Opportunity

As the Senior Process Engineer, you will work on a variety of complex projects, independently on smaller scope projects and as a discipline lead and team member on larger projects. You will lead, evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain processes or methodologies for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include simulations, calculations, and support field work. The projects that a Senior Process Engineer is assigned to may have complex features that will require the application of mature knowledge and both critical and creative thinking.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for projects of varying complexity/size.

  • Meet all requirements of the Client and Stantec Quality and Safety requirements.

  • Establish and maintain positive client relationships.

  • Assist in preparation of proposals and estimates for new projects.

  • Authenticate engineering drawings and deliverables, as required.

  • Perform process calculations for preliminary and detailed engineering for pipelines, piping, vessels in refinery and related energy facilities.

  • Process simulation using simulation tools.

  • Preparation of PFD’s, P&ID’s and Heat and Material Balances.

  • Process Flowsheets for major equipment and piping, as well as Process Datasheets for equipment and instrumentation.

  • Hydraulics and transient calculations for process piping, multiphase flow and compressible flows.

  • Sizing of major equipment and heat exchanger rating evaluations.

  • Participation in process hazard identification, such as HAZOPs.

  • Preparation of Process Control Narratives and operating manuals.

  • Delegation to Intermediate and Junior Process Engineers will be required, as well as assistance to the same and review of their deliverables.

  • Peer review of deliverables created by other engineers may also be required.


Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Success working within specified budgets and schedules and meeting corporate and project quality requirements.

  • Design experience related to pipelines, terminals, gas plants, SAGD and Refining facilities would be an asset.

  • Operations experience in a gas plant or refinery would be an asset.

  • Experience with piping hydraulics and line sizing.

  • Experience with transient analysis.

  • Experience with the CSA Z662 design code and good knowledge of the ASME B31.3 design code.

  • Experience with the preparation of equipment specifications and data sheets for oil and gas facilities and technical evaluation of vendor proposals, including review of vendor drawings.

  • Working knowledge of piping and mechanical construction specifications.

  • Experience with the preparation and checking of PFD’s, P&IDs, piping plans and sections and isometrics.

  • Mentors and develops others while checking their work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills in English and French.

  • Must be able to travel to operating facilities, climb ladders for equipment inspection.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in Ontario and Quebec.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
