Job Summary

The Engineering Master Data Expert is responsible for establishing the processes and solutions of engineering master data capture in order to keep the engineering data up to date and integrated with different CN solutions. The position is a liaison between Engineering, Information and Technology (I&T), Transportation, Operating Practices, and other internal and external stakeholders to implement changes to the processes and solutions of master data capture and facilitates a common understanding between parties as to why changes need to occur. Furthermore, the position is accountable for training and keeping the knowledge up to update of the Engineering Master Data Analyst on data capture. The incumbent works on both the current processes and solution used by Engineering as well as helps define what future needs and processes are required. Moreover, the role handles the complex Engineering cutover changes in order to ensure work happening on track is reflected accurately in the engineering master data and maintains a robust process to ensure the safety of the plant and compliance of regulations.

Main Responsibilities

Process and Procedure Design and Stakeholders Communication

· Acquire in-depth knowledge of the company's processes and activities and update them to ensure that data accuracy meets operational needs

· Establish with stakeholders how data shall be captured within the different solutions

· Work with Operating Practices and I&T in establishing the data and processes required to improve current data capture and perform new data capture

· Write and update documents relating to processes and data traceability

· Work with Manager Engineering Technology to ensure Engineering Master Data Analyst and Geographic Information System (GIS) teams are following the establish processes and implement corrections when required

· Establish and improve the tracking progress process for each asset category to comply with CN policies, standards, and strategies

· Establish and improve the process of how Master Data Analyst will communicate between different engineering disciplines and teams to acquire spatial data, promote GIS initiatives, and coordinate updates

Business Requirements Management, Product Design for Capture and Technology Sourcing

· Collaborate with Engineering Technology and Operations leadership to identify opportunities for engineering data capture for current solutions

· Lead with Engineering Technology and Engineering Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) S/4 Managers to define the future on how Engineering master data will be captured

· Lead cross-functional collaboration with other projects and programs to validate business needs, understand dependencies and align deliverables

· Assist with the development of long-term strategies for maintenance of GIS data pertaining to Engineering and Corporate geospatial applications

· Participate in the development of reports in collaboration with I&T and the Systems Development teams

· Assist field team members including Track Supervisors and Senior Managers with report interpretation and oversight on accurate as well as timely reporting

Perform Engineering Master Data Capture and Report

· Lead complex cutover plans and ensure all relevant databases are updated and all stakeholders are informed of the incoming changes

· Update CN enterprise plant inventory, SAP, GIS database, and Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS) to reflect changes to assets for CN's track network

· Collate and analyze complex data from multiple sources to develop actionable insights

· Track, update, and report on the progress of each asset change in workflow management system to comply with CN policies, standards, and strategies

· Perform complex spatial and non-spatial data queries as well as generate reports for various departments

· Collaborate with various project teams and stakeholders on Engineering activities

· Communicate between different engineering disciplines and business teams to acquire spatial data, promote GIS initiatives, and coordinate updates

· Focus on communication and foster collaboration by regularly providing updates to teams concerning ongoing initiatives as well as encouraging teams to work together to accomplish common goals and learning

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work overtime and weekends when necessary. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress. The position requires minimal travel (10%) within Canada and the United States (U.S.).

Requirements

Experience

Geospatial Industry

· Minimum 7 years of experience in the geospatial industry

o Experience in gathering and documenting business and technical processes and requirements from multiple stakeholder groups and synthesizing into actionable items

o Experience in providing recommendations to senior leaders with appropriate justification

o Experience in railway systems*

o Experience in railroad and engineering field operations*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

· Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with geospatial emphasis

· Master's Degree in Engineering, Computing Science, Business Administration, or related field with geospatial emphasis*

*Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

· Knowledge of cartographic concepts and standards

· Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (AutoCAD), Map 3D and GIS topologies

· Knowledge of plans and drawings

· Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)*

· Knowledge of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), ArcGIS Desktop, ArcMap Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Network Analyst extensions, high precision Global Positioning System (GPS) technologies and post-processing, as well as Commercial Relational Database Management System (RDBMSs) such as Oracle*

· Knowledge of SAP and CN Systems*
