JOB SUMMARY

The Total Rewards Branch develops the overall total rewards strategy to attract, motivate, retain and engage a high performance workforce and contribute to the creation of a thriving workforce at the City of Ottawa, including the design and governance of Organizational Design and Job Evaluation programs and services, Compensation strategy and salary structures, Benefits plan design, Wellness strategy and programs, Employee Recognition programs, and related initiatives such as the employee value proposition and employer branding.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing analytical and technical support for plan design, financing, pricing and delivery of health, dental, life, disability, and wellness programs and projects.
  • Supporting the PM with activities related to vendor and contract management including tracking budgets and payments to external vendors, monitoring transactions, and quality assurance reporting.
  • Undertaking benefits and wellness related projects as assigned.
  • Participating in the annual benefits renewal process and costings for the collective bargaining as required.
  • Participating in and providing input to the development of the overall total rewards strategy for the City of Ottawa, as a member of the Total Rewards team.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of university degree in human resources, business administration or related field

Minimum of 3 years of directly related experience in benefit plan analytics and design

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Related professional designation such as Canadian Compensation Professional (CCP), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) is desirable

KNOWLEDGE

  • Contractual benefit plan design and provisions
  • Relevant regulations (Employment Standards Act, MFIPPA, taxation, etc.)
  • Project management principles and techniques
  • Research techniques, financial and statistical analysis and use of data analytics
  • Legislation, policies, regulations, guidelines and operational procedures relevant to the operational area
  • Corporate computer applications and systems including: MS Office, HR systems
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: English oral, reading, writing
  • Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa's satisfaction.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
