As a Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for day-to-day technical support, long term planning initiatives and strategic projects support. Your goal will be to act as a champion and advisor of Process Safety Management throughout the Refinery.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Act as a champion and advisor of Process Safety Management throughout the refinery in the form of discussions, presentations and participation in PSM events.

  • Ensure Process Safety Management compliance to regulatory codes, standards and practices and steward PSM standards/instructions for the refinery.

  • Identify hazards/risks via participation and/or facilitation of risk assessments (HAZID, HAZOP, What If, LOPA) and be advocate for risk management at the refinery.

  • Provide expert guidance and assistance to design, construction, maintenance, technical and operations personnel on related process safety issues.

  • Mentor and develop junior team members including engineers, technicians, operators, investigators and engineering students.

  • Provide Subject Matter Expertise and deliver technical reports/memos for PSM elements such as; Overpressure Protection, Hazardous Scenario Consequence Modeling, Quantitative Risk Assessment, Facility Siting, Fire and Gas Protection, Risk Management, Change Management, Safety Instrumented Systems.

  • Project Management of PSM Engineering Studies such as Facility Siting studies, Safety Check Rate studies, Firewater Demand studies, and Quantitative Risk Analysis and provide oversight/budgeting of outside projects with engineering consulting firms.

  • Refinery On Call for Incident Management and Process Safety Management.

Your Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication, organizational and planning, facilitation skills.

  • Ability to work across multiple levels and with various personnel to resolve and/or implement process safety requirements and risk mitigation initiatives.

  • Self-motivated, safety minded and strong work ethic.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a high focus on details.

  • Experience dealing with multiple priorities and deadlines.

Your Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in refinery or related industries.

  • Experience with Process Safety Management. Overall experience can include areas such as: operations, maintenance, and plant engineering. Preferable process safety experience could include some areas such as safety program development, fire prevention, safety check rate studies, flare mitigation studies, facilities siting, consequence modeling and assessment, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, process safety management, process hazards analysis, incident investigation and the development and implementation of safe operations procedures and processes.

  • A Bachelor of Science Engineering degree in one of the following engineering disciplines: chemical/process, fire protection, civil, mechanical, electrical or environmental.

  • An M. Sc Degree in Process Safety, Safety Engineering or Fire Protection engineering would be an added advantage.
