Role Overview As a Senior Business Analyst, you will serve as the crucial bridge between data engineering teams and front/middle-office business units. Sits between Data Engineering and key stakeholders, you will own the product backlog, build user stories for data engineers, and design reporting solutions. A key strategic driver for this role will be establishing data semantics to support the firm’s upcoming AI and LLM model rollouts. Main Responsibilities Translate complex business workflows into functional specifications, detailed user stories, and technical requirements for a team of 4 Data Engineers. Own and prioritize the product backlog, translating business needs into actionable tech deliverables. Build and maintain Power BI reports, ad-hoc analytical queries, and dashboards for business leaders and executive leadership. Execute data mapping, testing, and validation across cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, Databricks) and relational/unstructured databases (MS SQL Server, MongoDB). Drive data semantic modeling and support the construction of a semantic layer for downstream AI and LLM initiatives. Analyze trade lifecycles and resolve complex data discrepancies across Securities Master File (SMF), Investment Book of Record (IBOR), and Accounting Book of Record (ABOR) systems. Collaborate directly with portfolio managers, traders, operations, and executive leadership in a fast-paced environment. Must-Haves Experience: 7–10+ years of Business Analysis experience within Capital Markets, Asset Management, or Pension Plans. Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of the trade lifecycle, data flows (SMF, IBOR, ABOR), and asset classes (equities, fixed income, derivatives). Technical Skills: Strong SQL skills (ability to write basic-to-intermediate custom queries) and hands-on Power BI reporting capabilities. Investment Systems: Direct exposure to Order/Investment Management Systems (e.g., Aladdin, SimCorp, CRIMS, etc.). Culture Fit: A hands-on, adaptive mindset suited for a flat, dynamic environment without heavy administrative bureaucracy. Nice-to-Haves Hands-on experience with modern cloud platforms (Snowflake, Databricks) and multi-database environments (MS SQL Server, MongoDB). Experience working with market data feeds (Bloomberg DL, Refinitiv, FactSet). Experience operating within Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks. Other Important Info Work Model: Hybrid (Toronto, ON) Base Salary Range: $120,000 – $130,000 CAD per year Bonus & Equity: Target 20% performance bonus (tiered based on performance), profit-sharing, and future equity ownership options for high performers.
